Hi Jen
Thanks for your query.
Sclerosis around the sacroiliac joints is certainly a sign of degeneration. People suffering symtoms from this usually complain of a stiff and achy low back- usually worse on one side, often around the SIJ or sacral border. The pain is often made worse by standing for long periods- or even sitting for long periods, where a sufferer often finds it difficult to straighten their spine to be completely erect when moving from the seat to stand position.
Although this process is part of life (we age on the inside too- especially on weight bearing joints like the SIJ’s) there are many things you can do to manage the pain. Keeping in mind that I haven’t examined you, and I would recommend you come in for such prior to taking my advice as gospel, i would recommend you start by trying the following:
1. As soon as you wake up- hug your knees to your chest for about 60 secs
2. Throughout your day at work, stretch your hamstrings out.
Jen this is a condition I treat multiple times a day- it does respond really well to osteopathic treatment so I welcome you to the clinic if you want some further input.
All the best
Dr Anthony Collins
